Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), what will it be in 2022?

SEO is a term that everyone has heard of these days. But what is it really? Find out in this article.

SEO is an abbreviation that stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is the process of optimising your website to get organic, or unpaid, traffic from the search engine results page. You can think of a search engine as a kind of website where you can look up information from other websites.

There are many different search engines you can use, but the most popular ones are Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. Choosing a search engine should depend on a few factors. There are more search engines to choose from than just Google or Bing.

But why is everyone so fond of Google?

Google has much more data: most search engine algorithms rely on past user data to drive the current version of algorithms. Google has 5 to 6 times more market share than Bing and therefore has 5 to 6 times more data to analyse and use for its algorithms.

Why is Google better

  1. The results are more accurate
  2. Find and record more information
  3. Faster than any other search engine

In this article, we focus on Google as a search engine.

Benefits of SEO

People usually start with SEO, targeting the most relevant keywords for their business.

This will work pretty quickly if you are the biggest brand in the country, but you will have a hard time getting top rankings if you are not an established brand.

To make your site more attractive to search engines, your best bet is to look for more specific keywords that people are searching for. These are known as long-tail keywords, and they are extremely important to your SEO strategy.

Search engine optimization thus improves the findability of your website.

Understanding search queries better

"I want to attract users who are looking for something I can offer. If they are looking for something I can't offer, and still come to my website, they will just leave. That won't affect my conversion rate". So the assumption: "the more traffic, the more conversion" is wrong. If you only attract unsuitable leads, your conversion rate will not improve.

Here's how to get more high quality organic traffic from Google

  1. Your web page must appear in SERPs
  2. You must appear on the first page of Google
  3. Preferably appear as the first organic result from Google
  4. You have to get users to click on your website
The top 3 Google search results get 75.1% of all clicks.

The American Backlinko did research researched the most important factors for websites. Those ranking factors are part of Google's top secret algorithm, which is updated 500-600 times a year. The algorithm was completely different 10 years ago. It has evolved to better match the user's search query.

If we look back 10 years ago, Google's algorithms were constantly changing to address bad practices by users to ensure that their web pages had a good search engine position. These are the most relevant algorithm changes.

Panda

Before 2011, positioning a website was relatively easy with practices that would currently set off all of Google's alarms. Currently, repeating the main keyword throughout the text the more often the better achieved good positioning. With the advent of Google Panda, quantity was no longer a priority and quality was rewarded. This change penalised websites with little worthless content and those that duplicated content. At this point, the SEO of the pages began to take priority, which is known as: internal link building. A job that is still done today.

Web Crawler and Scraper
A web crawler (also called web spider)
Crawling your page does not mean that it is indexed

Crawling means that the Google bot looks at all the content of the page and analyses it.

Indexing means that the page is eligible to appear in Google's search results (SERPs)

Crawling means that Googlebot looks at all the content/code on the page and analyses it. Indexing means that the page is eligible to appear in Google's search results.

Crawling is the first part of getting your page recognised by a search engine and showing it in the search results. The fact that your page has been crawled does not necessarily mean that it has been indexed and will be found. Pages are crawled for various reasons... The most common one is to have an XML sitemap that Google reads, and that points to your new page.

What crawling means is that Google has looked at the page and depending on whether Google thinks the content is"New" or otherwise has something to offer the Internet, it can be indexed.

When Google crawls a page, it also looks at the links on that page and schedules the Google Bot to look at those pages as well.
